Fitness to Practise for Healthcare Professionals
A Core Course on Regulation, Current Impairment and Professional Response in the United Kingdom
Fitness to practise · All UK regulators
A concern with your regulator is stressful. Choose your regulator for a plain-English guide to its process and what decision makers look for, then pick online courses that match the concern, each with a reflective account and a CPD certificate.
Each guide explains that regulator’s own stages, outcomes and guidance on insight, then maps common concerns to the right courses.
Every UK health and social care regulator can look into concerns about whether a registrant is fit to practise safely and effectively. A concern might be about conduct, such as honesty or boundaries, about clinical performance, about health, or about a conviction. Each regulator runs its own process, uses its own decision makers and judges the concern against its own standards, which is why there is a separate guide for each one above.
Most cases turn on the same core question: is the registrant’s fitness to practise impaired today? To answer it, decision makers look back at what happened and forward at the risk of it happening again. That forward look is where your insight and remediation count.
Showing that you understand what went wrong, why it mattered to the people you care for, to colleagues and to public trust, and what your own part in it was.
The practical steps you take to put the problem right and stop it recurring, such as targeted learning, supervision, audits or changes to how you work, and the evidence that proves it.
Not every concern can be remedied in the same way. Clinical and record-keeping failings are usually easier to address with learning and supervised practice. Concerns about honesty, sexual misconduct or discrimination go to character and attitude, and decision makers look much harder at genuine insight and sustained change. Your regulator guide explains how your regulator treats each kind of concern.
We are an independent CPD provider. We are not part of any regulator, we do not give legal advice and no course can guarantee the outcome of a case. Use our courses as one part of the evidence you agree with your representative.

A remediation course is targeted learning a registrant takes after a concern has been raised about their practice or conduct. The aim is to understand what went wrong, learn the standard that applies and show how practice has changed. Decision makers look at the quality of that learning and the reflection behind it, not simply at the number of certificates.
No. None of the UK health and care regulators approves, accredits or recommends particular remediation courses. Decision makers weigh the evidence you put forward, including how relevant the learning is to the concern and what you took from it. Be wary of any provider that suggests otherwise.
Start with the course that maps most closely to the allegation, for example probity for dishonesty or record keeping for documentation failings. Many registrants add the Fitness to Practise course, which covers impairment, insight and reflection across all regulators. Your regulator page above lists the best match for each type of concern.
There is no set number. A small amount of learning that is clearly linked to the concern, with a thoughtful reflection on each course, usually says more than a long list of loosely related certificates. Agree the plan with your representative.
Yes. Each course gives you a CPD certificate with your name, the course title and the CPD hours, plus a structured reflective account you can adapt in your own words. Your representative can include both in your bundle. How much weight they carry is a matter for the decision maker.
Straight away. Courses are online and self-paced, and they appear in My Courses as soon as payment is complete, so you can fit learning around work and any deadlines in your case.
Tell us your profession and the area the concern relates to, and we will suggest the most relevant courses.
