GMC CPD courses and requirements

Doctors revalidate every five years, based on an annual appraisal with a responsible officer. The GMC does not set a fixed number of CPD hours: you bring CPD, reflection, feedback and any significant events to appraisal as supporting information.

What the GMC expects

  • Annual appraisal with supporting information, including CPD and reflection
  • Revalidation recommendation from your responsible officer every five years
  • No fixed number of CPD hours set by the GMC; many royal colleges suggest an annual amount
  • Good medical practice sets the standards your CPD should support
